Camping Out

Well, I just set up camp for the night on the couch!  Today was far worse than yesterday.  Really it's just a cold - which from what I understand - tend to be quite common in pregnancy because the body is busy doing more important things!  The struggle is mostly the rest!  I have surrounded myself with the humidifier, heating pad, tissue, Tylenol, and ol' faithful cough drops and water!  Unless I have to pee, I am resting on this couch!  I have put in Greys (the dvd player is not working in the bedroom right now - usually when Trevor leaves, something electronic stops working on me!).  Sometimes I find that I can get better rest on the couch too - so I'm hoping tonight is one of those nights!  

While here, I thought I would update y'all just a little.  This week Trevor bought me some beautiful flowers...

Then, last night in bed, while I definitely NOT sleeping, I took a picture of Kia...who was sleeping enough for the both of us...and in my jealousy, I woke her - mostly because I was feeling selfish!  

Please wish me well in the getting better department...I'm hoping and wishing for a miracle recovery!

UGH

So, unfortunately, I am sick.  It started yesterday with a bit of a tickle in my throat and today I felt like a truck hit me when I woke up.  I have a cough, sore throat, and headache that won't quit.  On top of that I am so tired - but can't get comfortable enough to rest.  I thought rest was a distant memory before - but now it's a HUGE struggle!  It's all made me feel so horrible and pouty.  I know, I know - I am a grown-up!  But seriously, in the past week my body has really started to feel the impact of the third trimester - and this has just topped me off.  I'm trying to hold it together!!  I have Kia here to take care of me, but truth be told - I just want my husband home...he's so sweet and just having him here would help!  I hope this doesn't get as bad as it did last time because that felt never-ending.  Tylenol and cough drops seriously don't cut it.  Ugh.

This whole being sick in the third trimester is trickier than I thought.  People keep telling me to drink, drink, drink (fluids, not alcohol!!).  However, what I have found is the more I drink, the better I settle into resting - and then SURPRISE - I have to pee!  We are talking about frequent bathroom trips.  So I just get comfortable and I have to get up again.  Ugh.    

I have to miss yoga tomorrow because there is no way that is going to happen with the way I feel.  I am bummed because not only have I been enjoying it, tomorrow they were going to have a talk about essentials for when baby comes.  I am also frustrated because I have paid for it, and already as of tomorrow the six weeks will be half over!  Ugh.   

I was supposed to work this weekend, which I was quite worried about; however, I am very fortunate to have had a few coworkers come together both today and for tomorrow to help out, which has been a HUGE relief for me!  Mucho Gracias to you.  I can take back one of my 'Ugh's!

Lucked Out

Well, after many pushes, I finally looked into prenatal classes!  Wow, was I lucky.  They were not nearly as easy to get into as I had imagined - AT ALL.  In fact, when breaking down our schedule - there were only two Saturdays that worked...May 8 and May 22 (apparently, June was too close to our due date!).  Well, that translated to one Saturday - as May 22 is a long weekend and nothing is offered!  Our delivery hospital - the Misericordia - offers a Saturday Workshop vs. the weekly evening ones for 6 weeks (which  wouldn't work with Trevor's schedule).  Anywhos...everything was full.  After some internal swearing, I emailed the lady personally and to my surprise, there was one cancellation for May 8th!  Holy good timing batman!  A big thank you to my darling doula who provided me with all the information to connect with the right person as well as providing me with almost daily emails to see if I had done it yet!  Already, proving to be a good choice!!  Another plus of taking the classes at our hospital is that they tour you around the unit after - which removes another thing from our to-do list!  Gotta love getting more done with less effort!

High of the Day

Today I stopped at Halmark with Becky and there was a 50% off table of Easter stuff!  I found the CUTEST book!  I'm totally in love with it!  It is so soft and fluffy...and then the inside pages are the cardboard ones that can be wiped!  Sweet!  Usually when a book is this cute on the outside, it lets your down with the story - but not this one!  It's really the sweetest little story.  I'm so excited to read it to our little man!  

The pictures don't do it justice!  It really is a cute little book...I know, I know, it's just a book - but it's still very exciting!  I shared only a couple of my favorite pages!  

On another note...the dog and baby have spring fever!  They were both busy bodies all night and all I wanted to do was rest!  He was really dancing around...and Kia brought almost every toy in an effort to get my attention - but I am just so darn tired!

(Still think it will be about 8 weeks away!  We will have to wait and see!  I could be very, very wrong!)

Not a Baker!

Well, it is officially safe to say that I am NOT a good baker!  I mean, really, I can't even get sugar cookies right!  I have never made sugar cookies before, but it really seemed like a little no-brainer recipe!  The Happy Baker has a blog and had posted a recipe for sugar cookies with mini eggs in them...seemed good!  I gave my best attempt...and thought at first that all came out disasterous - however - after I let them cool, they turned out not so bad...but not what I had hoped for either!  Trevor seems to think I should try again, but my baking attempts are officially over for the weekend!  Maybe another time!  

The best part of this process was hammering the eggs!  The one thing I was successful at and enjoyed the most (maybe it's because I got to use my crafting hammer, some level of comfort for me)!

Roll the balls of dough and then flatten them!  So far, so good...I thought!

I'm so very sad that there was a casualty in the process!  My mixer's beater broke and it sucks because I love my hand mixer!  All for not...!

The cookies out of the oven...I tried to lift them and the above left is what happened!  At this point, I walked away because I didn't want to deal with throwing them all out yet!

When I came back they had cooled and were more substantial than crumbly.  Are sugar cookies usually so sensitive?  Maybe they are and I just don't know!  So, I suppose all turned out - just not as easy or as well as I had thought.  I will have to feed them to someone else and get a true opinion!  

The dog doesn't count, she likes everything!

Saddest moment of the day...

I thought that Kia and I had spent the whole day napping on the couch and later in the afternoon we had to get out of the house so I told her I would take her for a car ride.  I took Trevor's truck and thought, why not wash it while I'm out...so that's what we did.  The car wash scared her so much she was trying to hide under the seat - literally!  I felt so horrible, and the face she gave me was so sad - I thought I was doing good, but I'm sure she would have preferred to be at home.  Sorry bug...next time we will stick to the drive only!  

Banana Bread

Well, once upon a time I was watching Dragon's Den (guilty pleasure!), a show where entrepreneurs go in and try to get investors to back them up.   Well, months ago, there was this young lady on who was presenting her cookbook to the Dragons (the high rolling investors).  Now, she was pretty clever and witty and I remembered her for months and kept in the back of my head that I wanted to get her cookbook to support her!  Her name is Erin Bolger and she combined her disasterous dating life with her favorite hobby - baking!  With this combination, she created a cookbook for baked goods that makes me laugh!  It's full of recipes and personal anecdotes...anyways...I was very excited to have finally made my purchase!  

Last night, as tired as I was, I forced myself to make the banana bread!  It's called "I Want a Man with Bigger Balls than my Banana Bread" (she has clever names for her recipes to go along with her stories!).  I have to say it was the best banana bread I've made in years.  It had apple sauce and cinnamon in the recipe, which was new for my banana bread experience!  It was great!

Prenatal Yoga - Week 1!

Well, today was day 1 of my prenatal yoga class!  I must admit, I was nervous and tired and weighed not going...however, I am so glad I did!  It was great!  I am looking forward to the next 5 weeks...the girls were nice too.  What I didn't expect was 'partner' work on week one.  They really expect you to get close to each other so quick!  There were about 4 partner activities...the last being an amazing massage (I'm telling you, we got close quick!)!  I'm so going to have to teach Trevor the massage!  Then, the last part was laying on our sides and connecting to our babies, while the instructor came around and rubbed lotion into our necks with a mini massage.  It was also fantastic!  Those two activities alone made it worth registering!  

The last comment I have is how shocked I was at the range of gestations in the room.  We had to introduce ourselves and state our week of pregnancy!  I was number three in furthest along - number two was 34 weeks and number one was 36 weeks (good for her!).  However, the first girl to introduce herself was six weeks along!  I was shocked!  Good on her - prenatal yoga was the furthest thing from my mind at six weeks!!  

The poses were great and really focused on opening the hips and stretching our pelvic area and lower back - which I'm sure will be great for delivery!  I'm very glad I signed up and am looking forward to the future weeks!

Boys and their TOYS!

So, last week Trevor went to Costco and found a new toy...at first I was a HUGE skeptic and not sure it was something that we needed to do right now...but thought, he rarely gets excited about things - and he's been talking about it for a while, so I thought okay...let's give it a go!!

We bought a Roomba from Costco...and so far, seriously, it has been the best $240 we've spent in a LONG time!  Keep in mind we have a large white dog - who sheds "Kia Love" all over the house!  Now, we realize that it doesn't replace doing a good vacuum once or twice a week, but I can't tell you how nice it is to wake up and have no hair flying around!  Our little Roomba does under the furniture, transfers from carpet to hardwood, and finds its way back to its dock when it needs to recharge itself!  On top of that, it can be programmed to come out any day of the week (or EVERY day of the week) at any time.  For example, downstairs we have it set to come out at 2 am when we are sleeping.  It goes into the nooks and crannies better than we do sometimes!

Anyways...last night, I closed the bedroom doors and let it go nuts on the upstairs level because the carpet was looking very 'well loved' by Kia, and the bonus room was collecting dust puppies in the corners!  Because I was watching a movie in bed and I didn't want it in here, I just closed the door!  I woke up, found it in the baby's room (because the dock was left downstairs)...and miraculously, the floor was SOOOO much cleaner!  If only it did stairs!  He he...for the rest of you skeptics out there (and keep in mind we keep our house pretty darn clean in the first place!), I have enclosed photos from my dumping of the bin this morning!

Anyways...we are now sold on our Roomba and I have to give one to Trevor for a good find!  I was so skeptical, but it causes us both so much less stress and annoyance with the housework!  It's awesome!  Yay for Costco!

Yup...up again.

Well, it's 3:30 am...I've now been up for a good hour and a half.  I've eaten cereal, woken the dog up, googled any google-type thought that have come to mind, watched Grey's...and now I'm back in bed 'watching' Revolutionary Road.  Honestly...all I want to do is SLEEP!  Seriously!  I'm exhausted...but it just ain't happening.  

Well yesterday afternoon, I went to Alice in Wonderland with Caitlin.  Now, I've been looking forward to seeing this movie for a long time!  I mean Johnny Depp and Tim Burton...not much more I could want!  Surprisingly, it didn't take long for me to lose interest!  I was bored and definitely incredibly disappointed with the movie as a whole.  The best part - it was in 3-D, which is always cool.  I can see that many would love it - but I am not its biggest fan.  

Rick's Cafe Locals!

On the other side of the cliff diving, there is a place where we found these locals hanging out...they weren't actually at Rick's - but I couldn't help watching how much they were enjoying the live reggae music and dancing and well - not shockingly - smoking pot!  Ah Jamaica...

I know this series of pictures officially makes me a creeper!  But it just encapsulated the Jamaican vibe for me!  The reggae music, the relaxed atmosphere, the locals...it was so great!

Rick's Cafe

After the tour of the town, we stopped at Rick's.  This was a very popular local bar/grill.  It was fabulous!  We did not want to leave!  There were live reggae singers, cliff divers, and just a great crowd!

The cliff divers were there own category of crazy!  We could have gone for free...but there was no way I was jumping in front of that many people!

Especially when this was our landing grounds!  I'm a clutz!  I could only imagine the embarassment I could have caused myself!
